Flying Start Challenge Regional Finals

28 Mar 25

On Tuesday, our two winning teams from the Sheldon flyoffs attended the Flying Start Challenge Regional Finals organised by AtkinsRéalis and flew away with top places in the competition, bringing home second and third place!

They competed in an exciting engineering competition hosted at UWE, showcasing their skills and creativity in a series of hands-on activities. They tackled the balloon car challenge with enthusiasm, designing and refining their vehicles for maximum speed and efficiency. Their innovative approaches and teamwork paid off as they successfully completed the challenge, learning valuable lessons in engineering principles along the way.

In addition to the balloon car challenge, both teams put their problem-solving skills to the test by constructing a sturdy and impressive tower. They participated in another flyoff against schools from across the region and presented their design, engineering choices and understanding to a team of aerospace engineers. Their hard work and determination resulted in an outstanding performance. The teams represented Sheldon brilliantly, demonstrating teamwork, resilience and a passion for engineering. It was a great opportunity that the students seized and capitalised on. Thanks go to the Sheldon Student Opportunity Fund for their support in allowing us to realise this opportunity.

Hearty congratulations to the boys involved!
2nd place: Henry, Noah and Jacobo
3rd place: Samuel, Charlie, Oscar and Mihan

Looking back with hindsight and at the overall picture, I absolutely loved my time at Sheldon.
