Ten Tors
Ten Tors is an annual challenge for young people in the South West of England organised by the British Army. It is the largest youth participation event of its kind, with 2,400 people in 400 teams of six taking on hikes of 35, 45 or 55 miles over the Northern half of Dartmoor during the weekend after the May Day bank holiday. The teams visit 10 nominated tors (check points) in under two days, carrying all that they need to complete their route and stay out overnight safely, all without direct adult supervision.
Ten Tors provides students with challenge like no other - it tests them physically, mentally and emotionally. It will create memories that will last them a lifetime and help them to blossom as a young person. Additionally, it will provide them with the opportunity to explore wider outdoor pursuits.
Sheldon students have been participating in Ten Tors for over a decade. We are the only school in Chippenham to currently offer this opportunity, and one of only two state non-selective schools in Wiltshire to offer training for the Ten Tors Challenge. We offer a full training and preparation programme for students that runs from October through to the event in May, open to Years 9 - 13.
If you are intrepid, looking for a challenge and want to take on a life-changing adventure, Ten Tors is for you!
