Art Students Explore Barcelona
Leaving very early on 25 October, we took 32 GCSE and A Level Art and Photography students to the beautiful and bustling city of Barcelona. After a short flight we arrived around midday and by early afternoon we had dropped off our bags at the hostel and were on our first visit the UNESCO World Heritage site Park Guell, which offers amazing views over the city.
During the four days, through lots of walking and numerous metro trips, the group managed to see a wide variety of galleries and sights ranging from the Miro Foundation to Poble Espanyol, to MOMA and the Picasso Museum in the city’s atmospheric gothic quarter. No trip to the city is complete without seeing Gaudi’s gigantic masterpiece Sagrada Familia, as well as Casa Milà and Casa Batlló, all of which we admired despite the often wet and rainy weather. Las Ramblas and the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya were also highlights.
Throughout the whole trip the students were fantastic. Mrs Brunt, Mrs Daly, Miss Moss and Mr Anderton considered them all to be a real pleasure to take around the city. They were a credit to the school and themselves with their behaviour and positive attitude throughout the visit. All of the students produced some excellent first-hand studies and photographs that captured the essence of the city, along with some fantastic work to use in their coursework portfolios.
