Children of Service Members Get Support

20 Jun 25

Several of our students of service families have been working with the charity Veterans with Dogs and their Support Paws programme. Working in collaboration with psychologists, pastoral teams and canine behaviourists, Veterans with Dogs have created a programme that targets current forces children's concerns, such as friendships, resilience and transition, whilst utilizing the emotional benefits of animal assisted interventions. Military life presents many challenges for children in service families, from frequent school changes to extended periods away from their serving parent. We hope that by spending time getting to know each other -- as well as the support from Sarah Carter, Arty the dog and Mrs Avent -- our students will develop crucial social skills and awareness of the service community. If you would like to find out more information on how we are supporting our service children, please contact Mrs Avent, our Service Pupil Champion.

The school reinforced my core values and built friendships that have continued to this day, drama gave me the confidence to begin to stand in front of strangers and speak to groups.
