GCSE Results 2024
Sheldon School and our students are celebrating a great set of GCSE results in 2024! The school has seen a dramatic improvement overall, where attainment has improved in all subject areas from last year.
The school has achieved its highest provisional Progress 8 score since 2019, and has exceeded the national attainment benchmark in both English and maths, with 75% of students achieving a 4+ (old C grade) in these subject areas. The school has seen a significant improvement in maths this year with 56% of pupils achieving a grade 5+ and a quarter of all students achieving a grade 7 or higher (old A grade). The school is also very proud that its disadvantaged students have made more progress than last year in both English and maths.
Sheldon has always valued the breadth of the curriculum we offer our students and are particularly proud of the that our results reflect success across a range of subjects this year. A third of students studying biology, chemistry, dance, food, geography, physics and religious studies achieved grade 7 or above (old A grade). The school has always celebrated languages and has done exceptionally well in terms of progress and attainment in all modern foreign languages, with a third of all grades in Spanish and French being above a grade 7 (old A grade).
New Headteacher Peter Lynch expressed his joy in the students’ achievements.
“We are all incredibly proud of all our students’ achievements and I am pleased that their hard work has paid off. I would also like to thank our committed staff and parents who have supported the students in preparing for these exams. Finally, we wish all our students every success in the future at whatever they choose to do next. I am pleased that the school results have improved in my first year and across a range of subjects and measures.”

It is incredibly rewarding to see how the hard work, resilience and commitment of students has enabled them to achieve results that they can be truly proud of. All students rose to the challenges presented by Year 11, and they tackled the busy exam period with determination and focus.
I am incredibly proud to celebrate these outcomes with the year group, with the results adding to all of the other amazing achievements and memories gained over the course of the past five years. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the dedicated staff body at Sheldon, as well as students' parents and carers, all of whom have worked tirelessly to support students in fulfilling their potential and preparing for their next steps.
It has been an honour to be a part of the year group's secondary school journey, and I wish all students the very best of luck as they embark on their next chapters. I look forward to hearing about where their future paths lead them!
Chair of Governors Louise Carver was equally delighted:
This is another fine set of results for our Year 11 students, demonstrating achievement across a broad range of subjects and in all groups. Well done to the leadership team and to all those staff, teaching and non-teaching, who guided and supported this cohort throughout their time in school. And, of course, huge congratulations to all the Year 11 students; whether you are staying with us into the Sixth Form or moving on to pastures new, I wish you all the very best for the future.
If you have any questions about your results, please get in touch. We'd like to wish the Class of 2024 the very best of luck in the next step of their education career and look forward to seeing many of you next year as you begin studying at Sheldon Sixth Form!
