Can You Help Shape the Future of Sheldon School?
Are you passionate about education and making a difference in your local community? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

Sheldon School is more than just a place of learning—we’re a vibrant, inclusive community where strong relationships and a deep sense of belonging are at the heart of everything we do. We believe every student deserves to feel safe, supported, and empowered to thrive, regardless of their background or individual needs.

We are currently seeking two enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our Governing Body. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the school and supporting the development of young people.

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need to have experience in governance, as training will be provided, but you must have a genuine interest in helping Sheldon School and the local community be the best it can be.

  • We’re looking for people who can bring fresh perspectives and skills to our team, including:
  • An understanding of education and the development of young people
  • Skills or experience of working in or around education to support our Quality of Education
  • An open and enquiring mind
  • The ability to support and challenge school leaders constructively
  • Confidence to ask questions, join discussions, and offer insight
  • A willingness to listen, learn, and make informed decisions
  • Commitment to attending around six meetings per year (mostly evenings) and two visits per year for subject link governors
  • An interest in personal development as a Governor, including access to professional training

Why Join Us?

Being a school governor is a rewarding way to give back to your community, develop new skills, and gain insight into how schools operate. You’ll be part of a supportive team working together to ensure Sheldon continues to provide an outstanding education for all its students.

If you’re interested in applying or would like more information about the role, eligibility criteria, or the school itself, please contact Kayla Jolly, Governance Professional, at kjolly@sheldonschool.co.uk.

You can also contact Helen Akinbobola, PA to the Headteacher, at hakinbobola@sheldonschool.co.uk to arrange a chat with Headteacher, Pete Lynch.

Sheldon gave me confidence in my abilities and supported my ambitions. Going to a state school has many benefits over private in terms of real-world experience and being friends with a varied group of students. This has helped me in my life since school.
