Great Success at UK Junior Maths Challenge

22 May 24

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the UK Junior Maths Challenge.

This is national event that puts young people to the test with a 60 minute, 25 question exam. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency to make students think. The exam also helps prepare students for KS4 by experiencing exam conditions in our School Hall.

We had over 130 students in Y7 an Y8 take the exam with an extraordinary 68 students taking home a certificate of achievement. Five students brought home Gold certificates and will be moving on to the next level of the competition, including twins Max and Jack in Y7.

We’d like to encourage all students who participated but didn’t receive a certificate to try again next year – especially if you were close to the Bronze cut-off. It’s worth remembering that 15 marks off is only 3 questions!

Thank you to the Sheldon Student Opportunity Fund for providing a grant for the entry fee for the challenge.

Sheldon gave me confidence in my abilities and supported my ambitions. Going to a state school has many benefits over private in terms of real-world experience and being friends with a varied group of students. This has helped me in my life since school.
