Mental Health Awareness Week 2025
We have been celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week with lots of activities across the school to help spark conversations about mental health and raise money for local mental health charities. Thank you to all of the students, staff and families that have gotten involved this week to make it such a success.
Throughout the week, students attended assemblies led by two of our Sixth Form Wellbeing Ambassadors, Poppy and Macey. They spoke about the importance of community and activities that they have gotten involved in to help support their own mental health. At the end of each assembly, the girls reminded younger students that mental health matters and that no one should struggle with their mental health alone. They encouraged everyone to reach out, ask for help and find a community that supports them.
Our Sheldon community has been brilliant in supporting the week and helping us raise funds for Wiltshire Treehouse and TeenTalk. We’ve raised over £600 in our ice bucket challenge supporting 4Youth (South West), an organisation that provides TeenTalk services in our local area. Thanks to your support, Mr Lynch will get a soaking next week!
The Row-a-thon, organised by Year 8, was a resounding success. Students and staff worked together to row 100 miles, the distance from our school to Big Ben. During break and lunch over two days, we had rowing machines and music set up on the Year 8 playground creating a fantastic atmosphere. BBC Radio Wiltshire even stopped by to find out more about the event and interviewed some of the students involved!
On Wednesday, over 40 students students joined Miss Mundy in running, walking and jogging the Mental Health Mile during lunchtime to highlight the connection between physical health and mental health. Regular physical activity helps release mood-boosting endorphins and doing something with a group helps foster a sense of community.
Thursday was Wear it Green Day, an awareness day organised by the Mental Health Foundation. We were pleased to see so many staff wearing green and all the creative accessories worn by our students. We had lots of lovely green bows, hair clips, socks and even a giant green frog costume!
Year 9 hosted a wonderful bake sale including green ribbon cookies! If anyone would like to show their support for Mental Health Awareness Week, we have green ribbon badges available at Reception for a £2 donation.
We’d like to thank TeenTalk and Wiltshire Treehouse for their support. Each organisation visited the school to speak to young people about their services and ways that they can seek support if they are ever in crisis.
