Last week the Sheldon Student Opportunity Fund hosted a Quiz Night to raise funds for student activities at Sheldon. It was a great event, full of fun and good cheer as staff and parents came together to raise over £1250 for our children.

Mr Humphreys, PE teacher and Quizmaster Extraordinaire, devised a brilliant quiz based on the school week at Sheldon. The quiz began with a ‘Do Now’ task, something each student sees when they enter a classroom. Every round was based on a different subject taught at Sheldon -- English, art, music, drama, science, etc. Mr Humphreys even set homework and organised a Sports Day (sports trivia round). The SSOF would like to thank him for creating such a fun and challenging quiz.

During the evening the SSOF organised a heads/tails competition and a raffle, so that everyone had a chance to come home a winner. Thank you to everyone that donated prizes, including Donnignton Valley Hotel & Spa, Bargammon’s Tavern, The Westbrook Inn, Adventure Point Swindon and The Pewsham

Thank you to all the teams that participated and made the evening so enjoyable. Congratulations to the winning team, Wine Not!

Everyone at Sheldon would also like to thank all of the members of the SSOF for volunteering their time to run the fund. The SSOF is a registered charity that provides grants to support student activities including extracurricular trips, materials for clubs and equipment for enrichment programmes like DofE and Ten Tors. It takes a lot of work to raise funds and distribute them fairly, but this group has done wonders to come up with new, innovative fundraising initiatives. The SSOF is always looking for new members and would love to have more people join the team next year.

If you were not able to attend the Quiz Night but would like to help support our students, please consider donating today. You can do so through ParentPay or by buying a ticket for our Sheldon School Lottery. We are also trying to raise funds to get new sports kits for our school team. Click here to donate via Just Giving to to help us reach our goal of £1000 to get kits for BOTH boys and girls teams.

My favourite teacher was Mr Girvan. It was impossible not to absolutely love English if he taught it. He was just the nicest human being and he never raised his voice at our class once and I had him for years from year 8 to year 12.
