School Closure Tuesday 26 November

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that your families are safe and well following the deluge of rain we have experienced over the last few days. Many locals have described the rainfall and river levels as the highest in living memory.

I am writing to provide an update on the disruption caused by flooding. The main road into the town centre from Calne remains closed, and several villages are currently cut off due to floodwaters. We have been informed that water levels in the town centre have peaked, and the forecast suggests no further rain tonight. However, the transport company believes the routes to the villages will remain impassable even tomorrow morning.

As of now, more than 30 members of our teaching and support staff are unable to get to school, which may impact the provision we can offer and our ability to open the school safely.

Therefore, like all the other secondary schools and colleges in Chippenham, we have made the difficult decision to close to all students on Tuesday, 26th November.

We are closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with local authorities and transport services to ensure that the school can reopen as soon as it is safe. Given the rapidly changing nature of the situation, the floodwaters could subside by morning, but in order to provide parents with sufficient time to plan, we felt it best to make a decision sooner rather than later.

For students in Years 7-13, work will be set on Epraise, as it was today.

We will continue to provide updates on the reopening of the school as the situation evolves, so please keep an eye on our website and check your emails for further information.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging time.

Yours faithfully,

My favourite teacher was Mr Girvan. It was impossible not to absolutely love English if he taught it. He was just the nicest human being and he never raised his voice at our class once and I had him for years from year 8 to year 12.
