Congratulations to current Sheldon Sixth Form student, Otis P, for taking home the national title for high jump in the England Athletics National Indoor Championships in Sheffield last weekend. His jump of 2.09m earned him a new PB and shows that he is definitely one to watch as he progresses in his athletics career. Otis is jumping in a new age group category this season alongside teammate and former Sheldon student, Peter K-S, who left Sheldon Sixth Form last year. They both cleared 2.06m and could have shared the gold, but they decided to raise the bar to determine a winner. After both failed to clear 2.09m with their first three attempts, it went to a 'sudden death' jump-off. The first to clear the height would be the winner. On his first jump-off attempt (and fourth attempt at the height), Otis sailed over the bar to take the tile.

Both Otis and Peter are novices and were competing against much more experienced athletes, but they both performed exceptionally and stayed cool under the pressure. They've been classmates, teammates and friends since they were young and we are very proud of both of them for taking home the gold and silver at the National Championships! We expect to see more great heights from this pair in the future!

My favourite subject was maths because of my teacher Mr Davies who I would love to thank personally one day as I used to hate maths. I love making on impact on my students lives and knowing that I can do what Mr Davies did for me. Inspire.
