Sixth Form Expedition To Tanzania
Over the summer a group of Sixth Form students who had just completed Year 13 travelled to Tanzania for two weeks of exploring, volunteering and adventure. Their trip, organised by True Adventure, included a trek through the wild and rugged landscape of the Uluguru Mountains and the bustling markets of Dar es Salaam. They had the opportunity to view Africa's unforgettable natural beauty during a safari and were introduced to the traditions and customs of the Maasai warriors. One of the most meaningful elements of the Tanzania expedition was the service project to support Better Lives, a charity that assists communities in becoming sustainably self-reliant. Better Lives helps to grow produce for school breakfasts, install sanitary toilets or work on projects designed to improve education and water supplies. Our students really enjoyed their time volunteering and spending time with local children.
Thank you to all of the Sheldon Students who participated in the trip for being wonderful ambassadors for the school, as well as to our staff that joined them on the adventure.
It is part of the Sheldon Sixth Form tradition for students to take a mini-gap trip as they wait for their A Level results to come in. Students typically sign up for the trip in Year 12 and spend their two years in Sheldon Sixth Form fundraising for it. Current Year 12 students will have an opportunity to sign up for their trip next term. Look out for a special assembly in November when True Adventure will introduce your expedition destination - Greece.
