Our Year 11 GCSE History students recently travelled to Berlin, Germany to see history in action. The group spent four days touring the city and seeing sites from their history lessons brought to life as they visited the Reichstag, Sachsenhausen Memorial site, the Olympic Stadium, Berlin Wall and Stasi Prison. They enjoyed experiencing the culture of a European capital city, including travelling on the U-Bahn. The students were brilliantly behaved and excellent representatives of our school.

Enrichment trips are an important way to help deepen our student's understanding of their subjects. In GCSE History, students learn about Germany from 1890-1945 (the rise of Hitler and Nazi state) as well as the Cold War. There's no better place to explore what they've seen in their history books than Berlin.

Thank you to our fantastic Humanities Faculty for arranging engaging opportunities for Sheldon Students to learn. This includes Miss Davis, Head of Humanities, who organised much of the trip as well as our our admin staff, especially Mrs Major for ensuring that everything ran smoothly. We'd also like to thank Mrs Allen, Mrs Tillotson, Mr Titcomb and Mr Humphries for giving up their time to accompany the students on the trip.

My favourite teacher was Mr Girvan. It was impossible not to absolutely love English if he taught it. He was just the nicest human being and he never raised his voice at our class once and I had him for years from year 8 to year 12.
