UCAS Clearing

Clearing is how universities and colleges fill places they still have on courses - over 30,000 courses in fact! You can use the UCAS search tool to find courses that still have places.

The common perception that this process is just for those who do not get the grades to go their Firm or their Insurance university, but this is only part of the picture. Nearly 30% of those who used Clearing last year were 'trading-up' (they did better than they thought and used Clearing to go to a university with higher entry requirements) or they simply changed their mind about what they wanted to do between sending their applications in and receiving results. 26% of Clearing applicants had not applied to university earlier in the year at all!

Every year we have students who use Clearing to go find a different course or university for lots of different reasons. We will be around on results day to help you but here are some useful links to get prepared.
